UX & UI REVAMP: MONEY-GIFTING FEATURE
ZaloPay of VNG Corporations | June 2018 - August 2018
I championed the UX/UI revamp of ZaloPay's money-gifting feature to better accommodate our target demographic’s use cases by leading collaboration among 8 entities.
What I did:
Market research: conducted surveys, in-depth interviews & ethnography for 150+ people
Analytics & strategy: Analyzed data & presented valuable insights and recommendations on use cases, design preferences, customer attitudes, etc.
Content writing: wrote in-app messages using popular sociocultural references, jargons, and slangs
Project management: prepared and managed project roadmap, budget, KPIs
Teamwork: simultaneously collaborating with 2 agencies and 6 in-house departments (i.e. marketing, legal, finance, etc.)
What I achieved:
Increased the number of weekly active users by ~10%.
Saved $4K+ in production costs
PANTRY MANAGEMENT APPLICATION
UBC Launch Pad to Peko (pekoapp.com) | September 2019 - Present
When I started living by myself in Canada, I always try to buy weekly groceries and attempt to cook. However, with my hectic schedule, I soon forgot about all the ingredients I bought. This kept happening time and time again, so I told myself: “I have to fix this. This is not great for my wallet, or for the environment”. Upon talking to a few people, I realized my problem is very common. Why? Humans are lazy and busy. We forget, especially when there is little quantity left.
To actualize my idea, I joined UBC Launch Pad, my university’s #1 software development club, without any technical background. I pitched a pantry management app that tracks the expiry date of all ingredients and suggests recipes based on what is currently available. Surprisingly, people lined up to work on the idea.
After working passively on the idea with full-time school, in July 2020, I asked my teammates to help me bring the project outside of the club to pursue in our own time. The rest is history - we’re building the MVP for Peko (pekoapp.com)
Here, I have:
Performed customer validation via user interviews
Performed market sizing and competitive analysis
Created a product roadmap
Helped my team prioritize and decide on go/no go decisions
Designed our website and app alongside with UX/UI team
Oversee all business functions, from marketing to financing
EVITAL: DIGITAL HEALTH-CHECK APP
nwHacks | January 2020
About:
nwHacks is Western Canada’s largest collegiate hackathon, with 600+ participants in 2020.
Acting as the Product Manager, I competed with a team of 1 Product Designer, 2 Software Engineers & 1 Machine Learning Specialist.
Our project is eVital: simple digital health-check mobile app that allows both patients & healthcare professionals to monitor real-time health data from 3rd party devices, easily keep track & communicate medical requirements (with a stretch goal to integrate Machine Learning for automated medical alerts & support).
What I did:
Ideation: using design thinking, I empathize with users when it comes to a major market gap in the crucial field of healthcare: long wait time, shortage of physicians,
User & market research: I looked at industry trends and existing players in the field of healthcare technology to assess our relative competitiveness and create niches. I also researched the pain points/comments of patients and doctors about the current system, and how new inventions play into the scene. Then, I interviewed mentors with experience in the medical field to validate our findings and assumptions.
Product management: I created user stories and personas for our designer to work with, collectively decided on a minimum viable product with my team, created a business model canvas & roadmap for future goals.
Project management: I kept cross-functional work connected, on time, and feasible by checking-in and goal-setting with the team every two hours.
Pitch deck creation: collaborated with our designer to create the slide deck & led pitching at the demo, where we presented to judges from Microsoft, SAP, Deloitte & many more!
What I achieved:
Wolfram Award for being the top 25% of 145 submissions
What I learned
How to facilitate different working styles - some like to stay close, some like to work by themselves, I learned how to find the middle ground while not compromising the quality
How to create a bond in the team & bring out the best in people :)
Feature prioritization: some things are needs, some things are future needs but current nice-to-haves, some things are just outright insane to accomplish in 24 hours, so I learned to make calculated compromises!
Time management: there's always a way to make it more efficient
Pitching: thanks to Accenture and KPMG workshops, I've added a few presentation tricks to my glossary to make my pitch more concise, personal, yet impactful.
